Job Overview

We are looking for a Senior IT Systems Engineer to join our team at South Dakota State. This role involves overseeing the planning, design, installation, programming, testing, and maintenance of our infrastructure systems. The ideal candidate will assess hardware and software requirements, collaborate with vendors to define solutions, and suggest improvements to our infrastructure and resources.

Key Responsibilities:

• Develop and maintain comprehensive documentation for all infrastructure services.
• Monitor the performance and availability of systems to ensure optimal operation.
• Ensure service agreements are established to fulfill the organization's needs.
• Create and document testing plans along with their results.

Required Knowledge:

• Proficiency in networking protocols and operating systems.
• Familiarity with client and server operating systems, including Windows, Mac OS, and Linux.
• Experience with systems and network monitoring tools.
• Understanding of security technologies.

Skills and Abilities:

• Ability to identify and implement enhancements to IT infrastructure.
• Strong troubleshooting skills for resolving IT infrastructure issues.
• Capability to explain technical concepts to non-technical personnel.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Evaluate new hardware and software for effectiveness and suitability.
• Foster and maintain effective working relationships with colleagues, clients, and vendors.
• Work collaboratively as part of a team and take on a leadership role when necessary.

Work Environment:

This position requires flexibility in working hours, including potential evenings and weekends. The role may involve travel and requires a valid driver's license.
