Job Summary

Masco Research and Development is seeking a highly skilled Materials Scientist to join our team. As a key member of our research and development team, you will be responsible for providing technical expertise to our business units, guiding them in the use of materials with a polymeric composition.

Key Responsibilities
  • Partner with technical leaders across the organization to develop new products and optimize existing product lines.
  • Develop and implement applicable test approaches, interpret data, and report findings to partners across our enterprise.
  • Manage ISO 17025 category accreditations with external agencies, working within our quality system to ensure compliance.
  • Manage laboratory equipment, maintain a clean and organized environment, and ensure good laboratory housekeeping and recordkeeping.
Requirements
  • Bachelor of Science in materials science, chemistry, polymer science, or related fields and 2+ years of related experience.
  • Experience with Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR) is required.
  • Experience with thermal analyzers such as TGA, DSC, DMA is required.
  • Experience with mechanical testing equipment such as tensile machines, impact testers, melting flow index is desirable.
  • Experience with Salt Spray testing procedures is preferred.
  • Experience with accelerated weathering, including QUV and Xenon Arc testing procedures and equipment is preferred.
  • Experience with color measurement techniques is preferred.
  • Knowledge of environmental testing such as weathering resistance, chemical resistance, surface finishing analysis is a plus.
  • Knowledge and experience in government regulations, EPA testing methods is desirable.
  • Experience in new product development is desirable.
  • Able to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Skilled in translating scientific test results into easily understandable presentations for individuals without technical backgrounds.
  • Able to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Able to travel up to 5-10% to support collaborative projects and attend industry conferences.
