Position Summary
This role involves providing engineering analysis and technical support to ensure the reliable operation of the electric power grid, adhering to established standards and protocols. The Senior Planning Engineer will conduct electrical engineering analyses and support the planning and operation of the electric power system. Responsibilities include system modeling, developing monitoring tools, performing system studies, analyzing operational results, and formulating solutions to both current and anticipated system challenges.

Key Responsibilities
  • Apply principles and theories relevant to the engineering profession and ERCOT's operational culture.
  • Exercise sound judgment within established procedures to determine appropriate actions.
  • Impact is generally confined to specific projects or assignments.
  • Provide assistance and guidance to junior staff as needed.
Additional Responsibilities
  • Act as a technical Subject Matter Expert within the department.
  • Make independent decisions on complex engineering scenarios.
  • Address intricate engineering challenges requiring thorough evaluation of various factors.
  • Coordinate and participate in stakeholder meetings with ERCOT personnel and industry regulatory agencies.
  • Build and maintain strong working relationships with team members and other departments.
  • Offer professional expertise to guide projects and support colleagues.
  • Mentor and advise less experienced engineers and analysts.
  • Lead cross-functional teams to gather input and conduct studies.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in power system software applications, spreadsheet tools, and database management.
  • Stay informed about emerging trends and best practices in the industry.
Qualifications
  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant work experience beyond degree requirements.
Education
  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field (Required).
  • Equivalent education and experience may be considered.
Certifications
  • PE Professional Engineer certification is preferred.
