Position Overview:
This role is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a reimbursement initiative for student loan payments.

To qualify, candidates must meet specific eligibility criteria as per VHA policy and submit their EDRP application within the designated timeframe.

The program's approval, award amount (up to $200,000), and eligibility duration (ranging from one to five years) will be determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after a comprehensive review of the EDRP application.

The responsibilities of the Advanced MRI Technologist include, but are not limited to:

  • Operating various imaging equipment to produce high-quality examinations while adhering to the standardized Specific Absorption Rate (SAR) guidelines for optimal imaging quality.
Conducting comprehensive MRI imaging of the spine, head, neck, chest, and other areas, utilizing specialized sequences to visualize necessary anatomy and pathology for accurate diagnosis. Performing MR Angiography of peripheral and visceral vessels, including renal, hepatic, mesenteric, aortic, and femoral studies.

Maintaining proficiency in Venipuncture and following the Radiology Service procedure manual for the administration of contrast media and safety protocols.

Preparing contrast materials under the supervision of the radiologist for MRI and MR Angiography examinations.

Reviewing and interpreting radiology requests for precision and appropriateness, ensuring a thorough understanding of the ordering process.

Assessing MRI orders for accuracy, addressing any discrepancies before contacting patients or proceeding with exams.

Identifying and completing inpatient radiology exams to facilitate timely diagnosis and treatment for hospitalized individuals. Implementing safety measures for self, patients, and others as mandated by Imaging Service Safety policies across all imaging modalities.

Complying with hospital infection control and safety protocols, emphasizing sterile techniques, proper storage and disposal of supplies, and hand hygiene.

Advising radiologists or referring physicians on examination results and notifying them of urgent procedures. Making minor adjustments and repairs to equipment while ensuring the proper handling and safeguarding of all imaging devices. Adhering to Radiation Safety guidelines to optimize dose management and fulfill diagnostic imaging requirements.

Maintaining a comprehensive understanding of processes for cleaning, disinfection, and sterilization of Reusable Medical Equipment (RME) in accordance with established Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).


Work Schedule:
Monday to Friday, with shifts from 8:00 am to 4:30 pm or Tuesday to Friday from 9:30 am to 6:00 pm, including Saturday from 7:00 am to 3:30 pm; specifics will be discussed during the interview.
Compensation and Benefits:
Competitive salary with regular increases, paid time off totaling 37-50 days annually, including sick leave and paid federal holidays. Eligible employees may receive up to 12 weeks of paid parental leave after one year of employment.

Qualifications:
Applicants must be U.S. citizens and proficient in English. Certification in general radiologic technology by the American Registry of Radiologic Technology (ARRT) is mandatory, along with advanced ARRT certification for MRI.

Completion of a full-time training program in diagnostic radiologic technology, accredited by recognized agencies, is required.

Physical Requirements:

Physical demands typical of this role include standing, lifting, and carrying equipment. Personal protective equipment may be necessary, and annual TB screening may be required.

Additional Information:

Selected candidates will undergo a background/security investigation and may be required to complete an online onboarding process.

Participation in the seasonal influenza vaccination program is mandatory for all health care personnel.
