The EPD is responsible for representing state agencies that steward Texas's energy and natural resources, including environmental concerns, oil and gas interests, Texas lands, Texas parks, and utilities.

Job Summary:

We are seeking an experienced attorney to prosecute and defend litigation on behalf of these agencies and the State of Texas. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in environmental law and a willingness to learn and adapt to new challenges.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide legal advice and counsel to state agencies and the State of Texas
  • Represent the EPD in state and federal trial and appellate courts
  • Prepare legal documents, including briefs, pleadings, and memoranda
  • Conduct legal research and investigations
  • Participate in administrative and evidentiary hearings
  • Develop and implement strategies to protect the interests of the State of Texas
Requirements:
  • Graduation from an accredited law school with a Juris Doctor (JD) degree
  • Member in good standing with the State Bar of Texas
  • Licensed as an attorney by the State Bar of Texas
  • Three years of full-time experience as a licensed attorney working in litigation
  • Knowledge of legal principles, practices, and proceedings, as well as state and federal laws, regulations, and rules
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Five years of experience as a licensed attorney working in environmental law or civil litigation
  • Knowledge of laws and legal principles and practices relevant to the Environmental Protection Division
  • Ability to supervise the work of others
