This is an exciting opportunity to join the Environmental Protection Division (EPD) as an Environmental Protection Attorney. The EPD is responsible for representing state agencies that steward Texas's energy and natural resources, including environmental concerns, oil and gas interests, Texas lands, Texas parks, and utilities.

Job Summary:

We are seeking an experienced attorney to prosecute and defend litigation on behalf of these agencies and the State of Texas. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in environmental law and a willingness to learn and adapt to new challenges.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide legal advice and counsel to state agencies and the State of Texas
  • Represent the EPD in state and federal trial and appellate courts
  • Prepare legal documents, including briefs, pleadings, and memoranda
  • Conduct legal research and investigations
  • Participate in administrative and evidentiary hearings
  • Develop and implement strategies to protect the interests of the State of Texas
Requirements:
  • Graduation from an accredited law school with a Juris Doctor (JD) degree
  • Member in good standing with the State Bar of Texas
  • Licensed as an attorney by the State Bar of Texas
  • Three years of full-time experience as a licensed attorney working in litigation
  • Knowledge of legal principles, practices, and proceedings, as well as state and federal laws, regulations, and rules
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Five years of experience as a licensed attorney working in environmental law or civil litigation
  • Knowledge of laws and legal principles and practices relevant to the Environmental Protection Division
  • Ability to supervise the work of others
