Operations Director - Power Generation Management

At Calpine, we are dedicated to leading the power industry in environmental stewardship and corporate responsibility. As a leading generator of electricity from natural gas and geothermal resources, we operate a fleet of 77 power plants representing over 27,000 megawatts of generation capacity.

As an Operations Director - Power Generation Management, you will play a critical role in ensuring the efficient and reliable operation of our power plants. Your responsibilities will include managing multiple functions within operations, including commissioning, control room operations, crane operations, and vehicle maintenance. You will also oversee the training and development of staff, including contractors, and serve as one of the primary decision-makers in the recruiting and selection process.

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced professional with a strong background in power plant operations, preferably aeroderivative combustion turbine experience. Your expertise in managing large-scale projects and activities, as well as your ability to make decisions that have a significant impact on costs and the achievement of function objectives or project-based goals, will be invaluable to our team.

In this role, you will be accountable for maintaining up-to-date environmental and permit requirements, ensuring compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations and plant procedures for staff. You will also oversee the plant chemistry program, ensure optimum water balance is maintained, and develop and coordinate plant safety programs.

We offer a competitive hourly rate of $132,890 to $169,435, as well as a comprehensive benefits package and a collaborative work environment. Job Responsibilities:

  • Accomplish work through others by managing a combination of multiple operations and maintenance functions.
  • Manage employees performing related duties, including full human resources, cost, and budgetary accountabilities.
  • Make decisions related to resources, project approach, and tactical operations that have a significant impact on costs and the achievement of function objectives or project-based goals.
  • Oversee the training and development of staff, including contractors, and serve as one of the primary decision-makers in the recruiting and selection process.
  • Assist in the development and administration of plant operating budgets.
  • Manage multiple functions within operations, including commissioning, control room operations, crane operations, and vehicle maintenance.

Job Requirements:

  • High School Diploma, degree from technical/vocational school or equivalent. Prefer Associates or Bachelors Degree.
  • Previous work leadership or senior-level contributor experience.
  • Typically requires a minimum of 5+ years of power plant operations experience, preferably aeroderivative combustion turbine background.
  • Strong computer skills, including experience working with spreadsheets, databases, and word processing software.
  • Valid state driver's license.

Salary Information:

$132,890 to $169,435 per hour.
