About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Radiation Safety Officer to join our team at Georgia Tech. As a key member of our Environmental Health and Safety department, you will be responsible for developing and implementing the Institute's Radiation Safety Program, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, and providing expert guidance on radiological research projects.

Key Responsibilities
  • Implement and manage the Radiation Safety Program, including radiation safety meetings and training sessions.
  • Develop and implement X-ray Safety and Laser Safety Programs, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Provide technical expertise and support to faculty, staff, and students on radiological research projects, including consultation on projects involving high-activity sources.
  • Conduct radioactive material contamination surveys, dose rate surveys, and lab closeout surveys, and manage the radioactive waste handling program.
  • Manage the dosimetry program, review reports, and initiate investigations as necessary.
  • Respond to radiological incidents and accidents, mitigate hazards, and provide decontamination services.
Requirements

We are looking for a candidate with a Master's degree in Health Physics or a related field, and at least 10 years of experience in radiation safety. The ideal candidate will have a strong technical knowledge of radiation safety, excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
