Job Overview

The primary responsibility of the Structural Steel Cost Estimator is to deliver precise bid proposals for structural steel and conduct thorough scope assessments for upcoming construction projects.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct accurate material quantity take-offs
  • Create detailed and comprehensive proposals for estimated projects
  • Manage project budgets throughout each assignment, ensuring accountability for profit and loss
  • Identify potential change order opportunities and establish associated costs
  • Prepare, issue, and monitor the status of change orders for materials exceeding the original contract
  • Develop and recommend optimal solutions based on cost, engineering, quality, and material availability
  • Engage in quote reviews, project management, and material procurement
  • Lead the department towards achieving its objectives through effective management and leadership
  • Serve as the Lead Estimator

Qualifications:

  • Expertise in Miscellaneous Metals
  • Strong understanding of construction principles and steel design concepts as depicted in architectural and engineering drawings
  • Ability to interpret construction drawings and specifications
  • Capability to prepare proposals with minimal supervision
  • Solid understanding of detailed estimating, estimating methodologies, and cost control
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to clearly convey bid inclusions, exclusions, and proposal clarifications to owners and subcontractors
  • Proficient in multitasking and prioritizing responsibilities
  • Review proposals, specifications, and drawings; attend pre-bid meetings; determine scope of work; and develop quantity take-offs
  • Build and maintain relationships with general contractors
  • Oversee the buyout process in collaboration with the Project Manager

Education and Experience:

  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management or Engineering is preferred
  • In-depth knowledge of construction principles and practices
  • Strong problem-solving abilities, adaptable and flexible in working with diverse individuals
  • Experience in project setup, budget planning, buyout, and cost reporting is essential
  • Good understanding of critical path scheduling
  • Highly motivated and energetic, with a strong sense of urgency
  • Self-driven and entrepreneurial, capable of working independently as well as collaboratively in a team setting
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, On-Screen Estimating software, and ACC Build
