Position Overview

The primary responsibility of the Structural Steel Cost Estimator is to deliver precise bid proposals for Structural Steel and conduct scope evaluations for upcoming construction initiatives.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct accurate material quantity assessments
  • Create detailed and comprehensive proposals for the estimated projects
  • Oversee project budgets throughout each assignment, ensuring accountability for profit and loss
  • Identify potential change order opportunities and establish costs where necessary
  • Prepare, issue, and monitor the status of change orders for materials exceeding the original contract
  • Propose options and recommend optimal value solutions based on cost, engineering, quality, or material availability
  • Additional duties include reviewing quotes, managing projects, and procuring materials
  • Lead the department towards achieving its objectives through effective management and leadership
  • Act as the Lead Estimator

Qualifications:

  • In-depth knowledge of Miscellaneous Metals
  • Strong understanding of building construction principles combined with steel design concepts as depicted in architectural and engineering drawings
  • Ability to interpret construction drawings and specifications
  • Capability to prepare proposals with minimal supervision
  • Solid grasp of detailed estimating, estimating methodologies, and cost management
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, enabling clear articulation of bid inclusions, exclusions, and proposal clarifications with stakeholders
  • Adept at multitasking and prioritizing tasks effectively
  • Review proposals, specifications, and drawings; attend pre-bid meetings; determine scope of work; and develop quantity take-offs
  • Foster and maintain relationships with general contractors
  • Manage the buyout process in collaboration with the Project Manager

Education and Experience:

  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management or Engineering is preferred
  • Comprehensive knowledge of construction principles and practices is essential
  • Strong problem-solving abilities, with a flexible approach to working with diverse individuals
  • Experience in project setup, budget planning, buyout, and cost reporting is required
  • Good understanding of critical path scheduling
  • Highly motivated and energetic, with a strong sense of urgency
  • Self-driven and entrepreneurial, capable of working independently as well as collaboratively within a team
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, On-Screen Estimating software, and ACC Build
