Role Summary:

As an Ophthalmic Assistant, you will serve a crucial role in supporting our physicians. You will receive cross-training to handle a variety of administrative and clinical responsibilities. These tasks include preparing patients for their consultations, setting up examination rooms, conducting basic vision screening tests, administering prescribed eye medications, maintaining and cleaning ophthalmic equipment, and assisting physicians during minor surgical and laser interventions.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Welcome and direct patients to their examination areas
  • Collect comprehensive patient medical histories, including chief complaints, family medical history, allergies, and current medications
  • Conduct preliminary eye tests prior to the physician's examination, ensuring patients understand the procedures and their implications; tests may include basic vision assessments, depth perception checks, color blindness evaluations, eye pressure measurements, topography, autorefraction/refraction, visual field tests, and tear lab assessments
  • Confirm patients' current eye prescription details
  • Dilate patients' pupils using prescribed eye drops when necessary for further evaluations
  • Inform patients about the physician they will see after the preliminary work-up and testing, ensuring their comfort during waiting periods
  • Renew prescription eye drops as directed by the physician
  • Accurately document all patient histories and test results
  • Adhere to HIPAA regulations and maintain patient confidentiality
  • Participate in special projects and perform additional duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Strong written, verbal, and listening communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonal, time management, and organizational abilities
  • Exceptional customer service skills
  • Flexibility to work various shifts, including weekends
  • Capability to stand for extended periods

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous experience as a medical assistant or in a healthcare setting, familiarity with medical terminology, and COA certification

Work Schedule:

  • Rotating schedule from Monday to Friday, 7:00 AM - 7:00 PM

Compensation:

  • Hourly Rate: $22.00
