Overview

Provides assistance to patients under the guidance of a licensed physical or occupational therapist.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Evaluate pertinent clinical information.
  2. Collaborate and coordinate care plans with patients, families, and other healthcare professionals.
  3. Execute therapeutic interventions as specified in the patient's care plan.
  4. Engage in educational activities for patients and their families.
  5. Maintain clinical and professional expertise.
  6. Complete all required documentation within the designated time frame.
  7. Communicate with therapists regarding patient needs and objectives.
  8. Participate in training programs and departmental meetings.
  9. Share knowledge by mentoring students, new staff, and volunteers, and by presenting training sessions.
  10. Stay actively involved in departmental and organizational initiatives.
  11. Provide constructive feedback to management.
  12. Assist in departmental planning, staff development, performance enhancement, and clinical service improvement.
  13. Support departmental efficiency by fulfilling individual responsibilities and reporting significant changes in patient volume that may necessitate staffing adjustments.

  • Adhere to compliance requirements as specified in the Employee Handbook.
  • Must comply with DCH Behavioral Standards, fostering positive relationships with patients, families, colleagues, and oneself.
  • Utilize electronic communication, time management software, learning management systems, and the intranet.
  • Comply with all DCH Health System policies and procedures.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications

Possess a current PTA/OTA license in Alabama. Maintain active status with the licensing authority. Must be able to read, write clearly, speak, and understand English.

  • Exposure to bodily fluids, diseases, infections, and hazardous materials may occur; appropriate protective equipment may be required.
Physical Factors
  • Physical activities include: talking, hearing, bending, twisting, walking, running, kneeling, crouching, stooping, crawling, climbing, balancing, reaching, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, repetitive motions, standing, and using hands to handle or control objects.
  • Requirements:
  • PT/OT
    • Heavy work: exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, up to 50 pounds frequently, and up to 20 pounds constantly to move objects.
  • Ability to perform duties with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Hearing and vision must be normal or corrected to within normal limits.
  • Physical presence onsite is essential.
