Physical Therapy Assistant

Provides assistance to patients under the guidance of a licensed physical or occupational therapist.
Key Responsibilities
- Evaluate pertinent clinical information.
- Collaborate and coordinate care plans with patients, families, and other healthcare professionals.
- Execute therapeutic interventions as specified in the patient's care plan.
- Engage in educational activities for patients and their families.
- Maintain clinical and professional expertise.
- Complete all required documentation within the designated time frame.
- Communicate with therapists regarding patient needs and objectives.
- Participate in training programs and departmental meetings.
- Share knowledge by mentoring students, new staff, and volunteers, and by presenting training sessions.
- Stay actively involved in departmental and organizational initiatives.
- Provide constructive feedback to management.
- Assist in departmental planning, staff development, performance enhancement, and clinical service improvement.
- Support departmental efficiency by fulfilling individual responsibilities and reporting significant changes in patient volume that may necessitate staffing adjustments.
- Uphold performance, patient, and employee satisfaction, as well as financial standards as outlined in performance evaluations.
- Adhere to compliance requirements as specified in the Employee Handbook.
- Must comply with DCH Behavioral Standards, fostering positive relationships with patients, families, colleagues, and oneself.
- Utilize electronic communication, time management software, learning management systems, and the intranet.
- Comply with all DCH Health System policies and procedures.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Possess a current PTA/OTA license in Alabama. Maintain active status with the licensing authority. Must be able to read, write clearly, speak, and understand English.

- Exposure to bodily fluids, diseases, infections, and hazardous materials may occur; appropriate protective equipment may be required.
- Physical activities include: talking, hearing, bending, twisting, walking, running, kneeling, crouching, stooping, crawling, climbing, balancing, reaching, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, repetitive motions, standing, and using hands to handle or control objects.
- Requirements:
- PT/OT
- Heavy work: exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, up to 50 pounds frequently, and up to 20 pounds constantly to move objects.
- Ability to perform duties with or without reasonable accommodation.
- Hearing and vision must be normal or corrected to within normal limits.
- Physical presence onsite is essential.
