Position Overview
The role of the Senior Research Scientist is integral to the Pearson Psychometric and Research Services division, which operates within the US School Assessment sector and the broader Assessment and Qualifications team.

Key Responsibilities
Pearson's research scientists deliver comprehensive psychometric support to both state and national clients, pioneering innovative methodologies and executing advanced research initiatives.

Qualifications and Experience
• A doctoral degree in educational measurement or a closely related discipline from a recognized institution.
• A minimum of three years of pertinent experience, ideally encompassing a wide array of psychometric challenges encountered in operational assessment programs or substantial grant-funded research endeavors.

Expertise in Psychometric Techniques
• Proven ability to apply, design, and instruct others in psychometric solutions, including classical test theory, item response theory, test equating, scaling and linking, and standard setting.
• Experience in adapting techniques relevant to the scientist's specific area of expertise to novel operational contexts.

Software Proficiency
• Familiarity with software tools and programming languages commonly utilized in psychometric research (e.g., SAS, R, SPSS, WINSTEPS, IRTPro, PARSCALE, C++, MPLUS) applied to unique operational testing scenarios.

Scaling and Equating
• Demonstrated proficiency in common scaling and equating methodologies, capable of reviewing and generating technical documentation, including specifications.

Research and Grant Management
• Skilled in designing research studies and drafting analysis specifications, identifying limitations and funding needs for proposed research.
• Coordination of study resources and documentation, along with formal reporting for presentations as required.

Test Development
• Responsible for organizing and collaborating with research scientists, data analysts, and subject-matter experts on all facets of test form design and field testing.

Proposal Development
• Coordination of technical designs for proposals and authoring relevant content, participating in proposal review teams as necessary.

Knowledge of Educational Trends
• Ability to assess national and state educational trends and their implications for operational assessment programs or research projects, providing strategic measurement plans and client advisories.

Communication and Leadership Skills
• Excellent communication abilities (oral, written, and business) essential for effective leadership with internal and external stakeholders.
• Capable of tailoring technical presentations for diverse audiences and providing guidance for presentations by other research scientists.

Project Management
• Demonstrated project management skills necessary to oversee all aspects of multiple assessment programs or a single large and complex project.
• Understanding of departmental roles and their impact on deliverables, schedules, and costs.

Organizational Alignment
• Aligns personal and departmental goals, providing insights for the creation and documentation of processes.

Travel Requirements
• Willingness to travel as needed.

Compensation
Compensation at Pearson is influenced by various factors, including skill set, experience level, and location. The minimum salary range for this position is between $135,000 - $160,000, with eligibility for an annual incentive program.
