We are seeking a highly experienced and skilled Central Utility Plant and Infrastructure Group Leader to join our team at SmithGroup JJR. As a key member of our organization, you will play a critical role in leading our efforts in central plant and infrastructure design, with a focus on sustainability and decarbonization.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the design and development of central plant and infrastructure systems, with a focus on energy efficiency and sustainability.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure that all projects meet our sustainability goals and adhere to local, state, and federal regulations.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with institutional, commercial, and academic stakeholders to foster collaboration and knowledge-sharing in the field of sustainable thermal plants and infrastructure.
  • Provide expert guidance and solutions on central plant and infrastructure design, including decarbonization strategies, to internal teams, clients, and partners.
  • Stay up-to-date with emerging technologies and industry trends related to energy integration and contribute to the development of innovative solutions.
  • Manage projects related to central plant and infrastructure design, from conception to implementation, ensuring that they align with our sustainability goals.
  • Oversee and direct mechanical engineering design teams in planning, analysis, and delivery of construction and specification documents.
Requirements
  • A minimum of 15 years of experience in central plant and infrastructure design, with significant experience in design for electrification and decarbonization.
  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering and Professional license required. Advanced degree preferred.
  • Proven track record of successful engagement with institutional, commercial, and academic communities.
  • In-depth knowledge of mechanical systems and equipment selection, geothermal exchange, sanitary waste energy exchange, and thermal storage system design.
  • Strong leadership and people skills, as required to build a team and develop cross-discipline/market/region and client relationships.
  • Strong project management skills and the ability to lead cross-functional teams.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.
  • Familiarity with sustainability practices and net-zero building principles.
