Job Title: Utility Technician

Join the City of Houston's Public Works Department as a Utility Technician and play a vital role in maintaining the city's wastewater infrastructure.

Job Summary:

The Utility Technician will be responsible for performing routine maintenance and repairs on the city's wastewater systems, including pipes, pumps, and treatment plants. This role requires a strong understanding of mechanical equipment and the ability to troubleshoot and resolve issues in a timely manner.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Perform routine maintenance and repairs on wastewater systems, including pipes, pumps, and treatment plants
  • Operate and maintain sampling instruments and perform field analysis of water samples
  • Collect, preserve, send, and transport samples to laboratory for analysis
  • Operate valves and flush hydrants to address water quality issues
  • Prepare and maintain reports, forms, and records for operations, assignments, service calls, maintenance and repairs of equipment and tools, and/or sampling activity utilizing a data tracking system
  • Operate centrifuge or dryer in sludge process
  • Perform maintenance tasks related to the operation of wastewater treatment facilities
  • Isolate water lines by operation valves and reviewing GIS to determine valve locations
  • Renew utility services to designated areas
Requirements:
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • 6 months of general maintenance/work experience
  • Valid Texas driver's license
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and prioritize tasks effectively
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills
