Job Overview

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:


1. Prepares and submits daily compaction documentation, including detailed schematics of testing sites within the project area to the Quality Control Supervisor, Project Managers, and/or Project Engineers.
2. Utilizes nuclear density gauges to assess field density and establishes daily rolling patterns on-site.
a. Marks field density at designated locations for reference by inspectors, Roller Operators, and Forepersons.
b. Collaborates closely with Roller Operators to ascertain the necessary number of passes for each roller to meet specified compaction standards.
3. Extracts and evaluates core samples.
a. Collects the required number of cores at each site daily or by the following morning.
b. Tags and forwards cores to the Project Manager / Project Engineer with comprehensive data recorded on a standardized transmittal form.
c. Adheres to departmental protocols for handling and storing cores to maintain core integrity and prevent damage during transportation.
d. Submits daily/weekly core analysis reports to the Quality Control Supervisor, Project Manager, and/or Project Engineer in compliance with departmental procedures.
4. Conducts field sampling of hot mix asphalt (HMA) as dictated by departmental guidelines.
5. Captures daily job site photographs before and after paving activities and archives them in the department's digital files.
6. Regularly consults with the Lab Technician and the Quality Control Supervisor to assist with laboratory testing when compaction assessments are not required.
7. Undertakes additional responsibilities as assigned.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS:


1. High school diploma with a strong foundation in mathematics and science.
2. Proficient in Word, Excel, and Email; adaptable to proprietary software. Sufficient keyboarding skills to complete tasks efficiently.
3. Strong mathematical abilities to perform precise calculations for daily responsibilities.
4. Capable of interpreting job specifications and technical documents.
5. Ability to learn how to reference plans for testing locations.
6. Possession of a valid driver's license with a favorable driving record.
7. Nuclear Gauge certification or the ability to obtain one within the initial 90-day introductory period.
8. Capacity to work independently and complete assignments promptly.
9. Excellent interpersonal skills to facilitate effective communication both internally and externally.
10. Willingness to work flexible hours based on operational requirements, including evenings, weekends, holidays, and overtime.
11. Must be able to work across multiple sites/locations, which may include travel as necessary.
12. Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs for extended periods.
13. Capable of passing clearances to obtain necessary badges.
