Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Special Education Support Professional to join our team at Berrien County Schools Consortium. As a Paraprofessional for Students with Disabilities, you will play a vital role in supporting students with special needs in their educational journey.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Provide Personal Care Services: Assist students with disabilities with personal care needs, including toileting, feeding, dressing, and transferring, as determined by the individual educational planning team (IEPT).
  2. Implement Accommodations and Modifications: Implement accommodations and modifications related to classroom activities based on the needs identified in the student's Individualized Education Program (IEP).
  3. Maintain Confidentiality: Maintain confidentiality and adhere to FERPA guidelines when working with students and their families.
  4. Complete Medicaid Personal Care Logs: Accurately complete Medicaid Personal Care Logs as required.
  5. Promote Social Acceptance and Interaction: Encourage and support students in interacting with their general education peers.
  6. Promote Student Independence: Assist students in developing independence in learning activities, completing classroom assignments, and interacting with peers.
  7. Support Behavioral Redirection and Intervention: Provide support to students through behavioral redirection and intervention strategies.
  8. Assist with Toileting and Transferring Duties: Assist students with toileting and transferring duties as needed.
  9. Lift Up to 50 Pounds: Be able to lift up to 50 pounds as required by the job.
  10. Assist with Behavioral Intervention Strategies: Assist in implementing behavioral intervention strategies as needed.
Requirements
  • High school graduate
  • Passed the paraprofessional test for certification or completed two years of college
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Demonstrated technical skills and basic understanding of the educational process and the application of knowledge to assist students
  • Ability to work effectively under the direction of others
