Position Overview:
As a vital member of the educational team, the Special Education Support Specialist plays a crucial role in assisting students with disabilities in achieving their educational goals within an inclusive environment.

Key Responsibilities:
The specialist will work collaboratively with both special education and general education instructors to provide essential support to students. Responsibilities include:

  1. Offering personalized assistance to students with disabilities as determined by their Individualized Education Program (IEP), ensuring they receive the necessary support in a less restrictive educational setting.
  2. Implementing tailored accommodations and modifications to classroom activities based on the specific needs outlined in each student's IEP.
  3. Upholding confidentiality and adhering to FERPA regulations regarding student information.
  4. Maintaining accurate Medicaid Personal Care Logs as required.
  5. Encouraging social integration and interaction among students, fostering a sense of community within the classroom.
  6. Promoting student independence in academic tasks and peer interactions.
  7. Providing behavioral support through redirection and intervention strategies.
  8. Assisting with personal care tasks, including toileting and mobility, as needed.
  9. Supporting the implementation of behavioral intervention strategies.
  10. Performing additional duties as assigned by supervisory staff.

Qualifications:
To be considered for this position, candidates must possess:

  1. A high school diploma or equivalent.
  2. Successful completion of the paraprofessional certification test or at least two years of college education.
  3. Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  4. A solid understanding of the educational process and the ability to effectively assist students.
  5. Proven ability to work collaboratively under the guidance of others.

Working Conditions:
This position requires the ability to lift up to 50 lbs and engage actively with students throughout the school day.

Compensation:
Salary will be commensurate with experience and in accordance with the relevant contract.
