We are seeking two dedicated postdoctoral researchers to join the laboratory of Professor William Gray within the Department of Plant & Microbial Biology. The focus of this research will be on the intricate mechanisms by which the plant hormone auxin influences cellular expansion during the growth and development of plants, utilizing Arabidopsis thaliana as the primary model organism.
Research Responsibilities
75% Experimental Design and Execution
Independently carry out molecular and genetic experiments, which include the generation and characterization of Arabidopsis mutants, the creation of transgenic plants, protein purification, enzyme assays, and the analysis of gene and protein expression.
10% Results Compilation and Dissemination
Prepare findings for publication in leading scientific journals and present at various national and international conferences. This role will involve data compilation and figure preparation for manuscripts and presentations.
5% Data Management
Maintain thorough records of all experiments conducted, including generated reagents, in accordance with laboratory protocols.
5% Laboratory Engagement
Contribute to the lab's collaborative environment by preparing communal reagents and assisting with lab maintenance. Provide guidance and training to undergraduate researchers and new team members.
5% Community Involvement
Engage with the local scientific community through collaborative efforts and outreach activities.
Qualifications
Essential:
A PhD in genetics, cell or molecular biology, biochemistry, or a related discipline is required. Candidates should demonstrate extensive experience with molecular techniques such as cloning, PCR, and recombinant protein expression, along with a proven ability to independently design and execute research projects leading to publications.
Preferred:
Experience in protein purification, mass spectrometry, and confocal microscopy is advantageous, though not mandatory. Familiarity with plant research is not a prerequisite.
