Job Summary

Jewelers Mutual Group, a leading insurer, risk advisor, and technology provider for the jewelry industry, is seeking a Senior Business Analyst to support our HR/Finance systems. This role will be instrumental in a Finance/HR software transformation initiative.

About the Role

This Senior Business Analyst will work at a high level to analyze business area needs, then recommend and define solutions to address business challenges and desired outcomes. Agile experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

  1. Determine which techniques and artifacts should be used for each project based upon size, complexity, and stakeholders.
  2. Identify all stakeholders and help communicate and mitigate risks to ensure project success.
  3. Respond to changing organizational priorities and work closely with project managers to assist with project planning.
  4. Provide input from a business and IT perspective and ensure stakeholders are involved in requirements gathering activities.
  5. Capture information provided in formal and informal meeting environments and prepare requirements documentation in a format understandable to the recipient audience.
  6. Ensure requirement traceability through all phases of a project/program and strive to eliminate ambiguity in, or varying interpretations of requirements.
  7. Assess client needs utilizing a structured requirements process to assist in identifying business priorities and may advise on options.
  8. Develop, write, and communicate business requirements and functional specifications for the implementation of business solutions.
  9. Build use cases to identify functional requirements to satisfy business needs and define routine, integrated processes.
  10. Document processes using basic formal process charting techniques and apply process definitions and flows to work performed.
  11. Identify process bottlenecks and contribute suggestions for process improvement.
  12. Obtain, organize, and categorize large amounts of information provided by stakeholders and critically evaluate information gathered from multiple sources.
  13. Reconcile conflicts, decompose high-level information into details, abstract up from low-level information to a general understanding, and distinguish user requests from the underlying true needs.
  14. Assess the needs of primary business functions and suggest technical solutions for business functions.
  15. Implement action plans to improve ongoing business performance in ways that minimize day-to-day disruption of operations.
  16. Ensure that all requirements and designs support the delivery of value, fulfill goals, and business outcomes.
  17. Offer input on priority of requirements based on time, cost, scope, strategic fit, and return on investment.
  18. Obtain approvals for each artifact generated and analyze and articulate impacts of changes to requirements.
  19. Appropriately respond to changing requirements, resolve conflicts and issues, and escalate issues as appropriate.
  20. Keep business units informed of problems, issues, and resolutions and vary communication method/style based on stakeholder or group.
  21. Understand organizational culture, structure, and impact on work efforts and understand enterprise architecture concepts.
  22. Conduct data gathering and analysis to understand business strategy requirements and establish and maintain liaison relationships with business units and IT.
  23. Seek opportunities to improve and deepen relationships between IT and business units and analyze performance metrics to ensure stakeholder satisfaction.
  24. Coach and transfer knowledge to less experienced team members and recommend solutions.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from a four-year college or university and a minimum of five years related experience and/or training, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Property/casualty insurance background and jewelry industry experience are helpful.
  • Workday experience preferred, and ERP implementation/conversion experience preferred.
  • Proficiency in common Microsoft applications, including MS Office Suite, Visio, SharePoint, and Outlook.
  • Working knowledge of project management applications, Mind Mapping Software, and prototyping applications.
  • Certified Business Analyst Professional (CBAP) certification and/or Usability (UX) Certifications are desirable.

Work Environment

Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer. Occasionally required to stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle, or touch objects or controls, and talk or hear.
