Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Building Code Inspector to join our team at the City of Benbrook. As a key member of our Code Enforcement Department, you will be responsible for ensuring compliance with building codes and regulations, providing excellent customer service, and working collaboratively with various stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct field inspections of commercial, industrial, and residential construction sites to ensure compliance with building codes and regulations.
  • Perform Certificate of Occupancy inspections and provide clear guidance on code compliance to prospective tenants.
  • Assist in reviewing commercial, industrial, and residential plans to ensure compliance with building codes and regulations.
  • Issue building permits and perform other office-related tasks as required.
  • Enforce compliance with City adopted ordinances and regulations, issue notices of non-compliance, and document all actions under the supervision of the Building Official.
  • Investigate and respond to complaints of improper installation as directed by the Building Official.
  • Confer with design professionals, developers, contractors, and homeowners in the field and office to explain and interpret code requirements and restrictions.
  • Enter inspection details and related information into the permitting software and update and retrieve information as required.
  • Provide excellent customer service by interacting with customers face-to-face, over the phone, and/or by email.
  • Adhere to assigned work schedule and ensure all behaviors comply with the City's Personnel Rules and Regulations.
  • Work and coordinate with other departments and entities to fulfill all inspection requirements for each project.
Requirements
  • Possession of a valid Texas driver's license at the time of hire.
  • Possession of, or ability to obtain within six (6) months, the following International Code Council (ICC) certifications: International Energy Conservation Code (IECC) Residential Inspector/Plans Examiner certification and a Residential and/or Commercial Building Inspector certification.
  • Possession of a State of Texas Plumbing Inspector's License from the Texas State Board of Plumbing Examiners.
  • High school diploma or equivalent, and five (5) years' experience in construction and/or inspection of construction projects.
