Physical Therapist I in a Correctional Environment

Position Overview
This recruitment may be utilized to fill roles in both inpatient and outpatient environments.

Individuals eligible for a Training and Development assignment may also be considered for this position.

Under the clinical supervision of the Chief Medical Executive and the direct administrative oversight of the Chief Support Executive or Correctional Health Services Administrator I/II, the Physical Therapist I, Correctional Facility is responsible for administering physical therapy interventions and therapeutic treatments to patients within a correctional setting. The role includes explaining the importance of physical therapy services to patients and ensuring compliance with all relevant state and federal regulations as well as departmental policies regarding the physical therapy program.

Key Responsibilities
- Administer physical therapy treatments, including active, passive, restorative, and resistive therapeutic techniques.
- Maintain order and supervise inmate conduct, ensuring the safety of individuals and property.
- Uphold security protocols for work areas and materials.

Minimum Qualifications
- Possession of the legal credentials for practicing physical therapy in California as established by the California Medical Board. (Candidates may be allowed to take the examination prior to fulfilling these requirements, but all legal qualifications must be confirmed before appointment eligibility.)
- To qualify for the Physical Therapist I, Correctional Facility role, candidates must first successfully complete the Physical Therapist I, CF examination.

  • Background investigation clearance is required prior to hiring.
  • Medical clearance is necessary before employment.
  • A valid Physical Therapy license approved by the California Medical Board is mandatory.
