Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Customer Service Representative to join our Patient Financial Services team at Mercy Health System. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for providing exceptional customer service to patients, families, and healthcare providers, while ensuring accurate and timely resolution of patient accounts.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide top-notch customer service to patients, families, and healthcare providers via phone, email, and in-person interactions.
  • Resolve patient account inquiries and concerns in a timely and professional manner.
  • Work closely with internal teams, including billing and coding, to ensure accurate and timely resolution of patient accounts.
  • Stay up-to-date on revenue cycle processes, including registration, billing, and collection.
  • Assist patients and families with financial assistance applications and provide information on available resources.
  • Collaborate with pre-collect and bad-debt vendors to resolve patient inquiries efficiently.
  • Train new hires on policies, procedures, and workflow.
  • Perform audits on patient accounts to determine balance due from third-party payers or patient responsibility.
  • Understand statement cycles, bad-debt process, and collection practices.
  • Provide in-depth knowledge of community-based, state, or federal government programs to assist patients with no ability to pay for healthcare needs.
  • Identify and resolve billing concerns, account balances, and payment options for patients.
  • Complete pricing transparencies and estimates for patients.
  • Respond to patient inquiries via phone, email, and in-person interactions.
  • Initiate follow-up with billing and coding departments and insurance carriers to ensure payment for services.
  • Familiarity with rules and regulations for Government Insurance, including Medicare and Medicaid, Commercial Payers, Third-Party Liability, Worker Compensation, Institutional Accounts, Self-Pay, and third-party collectors.
  • Document all patient encounters on patient accounts/claims using notes and ensure accurate account updates.
  • Serve as a liaison to patient financial staff, maintaining good communication regarding problems and resolutions to patient issues.
  • Protect patient and partner confidentiality in accordance with Mercy Health System policies, Code of Ethics, and HIPAA laws.
  • Meet or exceed established call center productivity metrics and call monitoring audits.
  • Ensure accurate and timely completion of daily tasks and projects.
Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Years of customer service experience preferred or 1 year of customer service in a medical field preferred.
