Your Role
This position is integral to our pharmacy team, collaborating closely with pharmacists to enhance and sustain pharmacy services across designated areas. You will be responsible for the preparation of chemotherapy products for both the chemotherapy infusion unit and inpatient settings, all under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist pharmacists and fellow technicians in maintaining an effective medication distribution system to ensure safe and efficient patient care.
- Prepare medications, including chemotherapy and hazardous substances, with precision and in a timely manner, employing aseptic techniques and pharmaceutical calculations.
- Accurately prepare non-chemotherapy and controlled substances for the infusion center, adhering to strict aseptic protocols.
- Operate and maintain specialized pharmacy equipment, including IV safety software and automated drug dispensing technology.
- Conduct routine cleaning and maintenance of the IV room to uphold sterility standards.
- Adapt communication and behavior to meet the needs of diverse patient populations, ensuring respect for privacy and clear explanations of services.
- Perform additional related duties as necessary.
Qualifications
- Education: High School Diploma or equivalent required.
- Experience: Minimum of 2 years as a Pharmacy Technician.
- Certifications: Current Pharmacy Technician Certification from the Board of Pharmacy in the state of practice, along with Sterile Product Preparation and Hazardous Product Preparation Certifications.
Skills and Abilities
- Proficient in computer operations and data entry.
- Strong understanding of pharmaceutical mathematics and sterile techniques.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work with standard pharmacy and office equipment.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and flexibility in scheduling.
Physical and Environmental Considerations
The role involves medium physical demands, including lifting and moving objects of varying weights. The incumbent will work in patient care areas and may encounter hazardous medications. Compliance with safety protocols is essential.
