Responsibilities- Provide compassionate care to patients and clients.
- Conduct oneself in a confident and professional manner, even in stressful situations.
- Keep accurate medical records in accordance with hospital policy.
- Prepare and maintain exam rooms and treatment areas.
- Perform physical assessments and record observations in patient files.
- Effectively restrain pets, even when large or difficult.
- Explain common vaccines and vaccination protocols to clients.
- Understand the importance of a clean and orderly facility and take initiative to maintain it.
- Maintain positive relationships with colleagues.
- Prepare estimates for procedures and discuss financial commitments with clients.
- Explain necessary follow-up and homecare instructions.
- Care for surgical materials and equipment, and prepare the operating room for surgery.
- Set up clinical laboratory procedures, such as fecal flotation exams and urinalysis.
- Effectively position for and take radiographs.
- Understand the use and care of IV pumps.
- Admit patients according to hospital policy and doctor's orders.
- Discharge patients based on veterinarian's orders, ensuring they are well-groomed and in a medically appropriate state.
- Perform other duties as assigned, including assisting in other areas.
- Perform minimal receptionist duties when needed.
- Minimum of 18 years old.
- Genuinely enjoy working with animals and can handle them even when stressed, ill, or in pain.
- Remain calm and efficient during medical crises.
- Be well-spoken and approach job duties in a mature manner.
- Support and be part of a team, working well with all levels of hospital staff.
- Work requires lifting, carrying, and restraining animals (assisted by other staff members for animals over 40 lbs).
- Walk or stand for extended periods or time, frequently working in a bent or squatting position.
- May be exposed to unpleasant odors, noises, and animal feces.
- May be exposed to bites, scratches, and contagious diseases.
- Previous experience as a Veterinary Technician or in a similar role.
- Knowledge of animal care and handling.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Ability to multi-task and remain organized in a busy environment.
- Patience and a love for animals.
