Position Summary:
Northrop Grumman Defense System Sector is on the lookout for a Principal Hazards Analysis Engineer to join our team.
The Allegany Ballistics Laboratory (ABL) is dedicated to the design, development, and manufacturing of tactical rocket motors, medium caliber ammunition, composite components, and electronic equipment.
For years, the skilled team at ABL has been instrumental in supporting national security initiatives by creating and delivering defense systems for Department of Defense clients and U.S. allies.
Role Responsibilities:
Hazards Analysis engineers are tasked with conducting thorough hazards analysis studies for processes and products that involve energetic, combustible, and flammable materials.
These analyses are crucial for identifying risks and establishing safeguards to prevent ignition, injury, or damage, while also defining necessary actions to mitigate hazards or reduce risks to acceptable levels.
The role involves close collaboration with Safety, Process, Tooling, and Design engineers, as well as Operations, to ensure comprehensive analysis efforts.
Engineers in this position will perform complex safety and hazards analysis engineering assignments that support the development, testing, and production of highly hazardous materials.
Often acting in a consulting capacity or leading projects, the engineer will contribute significantly to critical design, development, and manufacturing initiatives.
Key Qualifications:
Level 2:
A Bachelor's degree with a minimum of 2 years of experience or a Master's degree with no prior experience in Safety, Physics, Mechanical, Aerospace, Manufacturing, or Electrical Engineering. Experience in a manufacturing or technical operations role is preferred.
Level 3:
A Bachelor's degree with at least 5 years of experience, a Master's degree with 3 years of experience, or a PhD with no experience in the same fields as above. Experience in a manufacturing or technical operations role is preferred.
Candidates must demonstrate strong multitasking and problem-solving skills, be well-organized, and work effectively with minimal supervision while maintaining attention to detail.
Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, are essential, as is the ability to prepare and deliver technical briefings clearly to all levels of management and clients.
Preferred Qualifications:
Master's degree in engineering, safety, or physics is preferred. Familiarity with MIL-STD 882, DOD M, DoD 6055.9, OSHA, and NFPA regulations is advantageous.
Experience with energetic materials and processes, as well as the ability to work collaboratively in a team setting, is highly valued.
Additional skills in electrical and control systems design, as well as proficiency in computer-aided design software, are beneficial.
