POSITION: TEMPORARY FACILITIES TECHNICIAN - MUSEUM EXHIBITS

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

PRIMARY DUTIES

Operates under the supervision of the Museum Exhibits Designer.

Assists in the conceptualization, design, and construction of all exhibits within the museum system.

Utilizes exceptional customer service abilities to foster and maintain positive relationships with colleagues, officials, and the public.

Supports the setup and upkeep of all permanent, temporary, and traveling exhibits.

Collaborates with the Exhibits Designer to create exhibit components as assigned.

Coordinates with other city departments for fabrication tasks.

Contributes to the design of all visual elements for the museum system, including but not limited to exhibits, interpretive signage, directional/informational signage, merchandise displays, marketing materials, and visitor information areas.

Maintains a comprehensive inventory of tools, exhibits, and equipment.

Oversees the upkeep of exhibit workshops, furniture, and display cases.

Demonstrates the ability to build and sustain effective working relationships with co-workers, volunteers, supervisors, and other city personnel.

Exhibits the capacity to interact effectively with the public.

Willingness to work a flexible schedule, including weekends, evenings, and holidays.

Operates vehicles for the transportation of equipment and errands.

Regular attendance is a critical aspect of this role.

QUALIFICATIONS

This position adheres to the City's Drug and Alcohol-Free Workplace Program, which includes: pre-employment testing, post-accident testing, reasonable suspicion testing, return-to-duty testing, and follow-up testing.

A valid driver's license with a satisfactory driving record for the past three years is required.

A high school diploma or GED equivalent is mandatory.

A minimum of three years of experience in a museum or comparable facility, with a focus on designing, fabricating, installing, and managing exhibits, or an equivalent combination of education and experience is necessary.

Ability to organize, direct, and manage activities and projects effectively.

Capacity to work independently and exercise sound judgment.

Ability to meet deadlines consistently.

Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, are essential.

Ability to function in high-pressure situations with the public, external production teams, and other city employees.

Ability to establish and maintain working relationships with colleagues, supervisors, other city personnel, and the public.

Some familiarity with drafting practices, project management skills, and exhibit fabrication standards and resources is preferred. Ability to identify and resolve issues.

Ability to interpret blueprints.

Proficiency in operating the tools and equipment mentioned.

TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT

Knowledge of computer hardware and software for communication, design, and fabrication of exhibit components.

Theater equipment, including lighting and sound engineering tools. Various hand and power tools, including hammers, power saws, drills, motor vehicles, telephones, mobile radios, and calculators.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to reach with hands and arms. The employee frequently stands, walks, and uses hands to manipulate objects, tools, or controls. The employee occasionally sits, climbs, balances, stoops, kneels, crouches, or crawls, and communicates verbally.

The employee must be able to climb to heights of 30 feet or more to install lighting and sound equipment. The employee must have the ability to ascend ladders, trusses, and rock formations.

The employee may frequently lift and/or move up to 80 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move more than 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

Work is conducted both indoors and outdoors at the Museum.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee may occasionally work near moving mechanical parts and in various weather conditions. The employee may be exposed to wet and/or humid conditions and lightning.
