Job Title: Clubhouse Assistant Supervisor

Job Summary:

The Clubhouse Assistant Supervisor is a key member of our team, responsible for supporting the Supervisor in organizing, leading, and planning activities at The Clubhouse afterschool program, School's Out Days, and Holiday Break Camps. This role requires strong communication, organizational, and risk management skills, with a focus on creating a safe and fun environment for children.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Maintain accurate records of staff, child, and substitute paperwork, attendance records, and routine safety checks.
  • Assist with purchasing program supplies, snacks, and budget maintenance.
  • Participate in monthly meetings and trainings as requested.
  • Maintain a working knowledge of departmental safety rules and regulations.
  • Assist with emergency procedures and building evacuation if necessary.
  • Maintain and document daily communication and cooperation with parents.
  • Mentor and role model professional conduct for team members, participants, and patrons.
  • Assist with planning and implementing age-appropriate activities promoting social/emotional safety and development.
  • Resolve conflicts and problems that may arise between children through redirection and logical consequences.
  • Promote child growth and development through hands-on activities, modeling, and adult-child interaction.
  • Communicate regularly with parents, school administration, and supervisor via email, phone, and in-person.
  • Maintain program equipment and supplies, and assist with inventory and storage.
  • Assist with developing a monthly communication tool for parents, supervisor, and new participants.
  • Maintain all program paperwork, files, and budget.
  • Secure general materials and program supplies.
  • Maintain a clean and safe program environment.

Qualifications:

  • Statement acknowledging mandated reporter of child abuse status.
  • Official transcripts of documentation of work experience in child care.
  • Three letters of recommendation.
  • Strong knowledge and experience working with children and a desire to promote life-long learning in young children.

Knowledge, Skills, and Work Experience:

  • Demonstrate skills and competence necessary to contribute to participant's physical, personal, and emotional safety.
  • Knowledgeable in customer relations and have an appreciation for the public's needs and best interest.
  • Demonstrated strong leadership and administrative skills.
  • Team-oriented.
  • Flexibility to assist with physical set up and take down of recreation programs.
  • Ability to multi-task, supervising several small groups simultaneously.
  • Exhibit good problem-solving skills and judgment.
  • Must comply with Park District regulations and procedures.
  • Certification in advanced Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), First Aid, and Automated External Defibrillator (AED) within one month of employment and keep certification current.

Work Environment, Physical Demands, and Considerations:

  • Must have the ability to lift at least 40 pounds.
  • Ability to endure prolonged standing, sitting on the floor, kneeling at child's level, and hands-on interaction with children during scheduled program hours.
  • Assist in the set up and take down of program materials/equipment.
  • In case of emergency, be able to respond quickly and appropriately with child safety in mind.
  • Activities are performed both indoors and outdoors, with environmental considerations including extreme weather conditions and building construction.

Internal: Park District employees

External: Residents of Oak Park, and patrons of the Park District of Oak Park

Hours:

The Clubhouse: Monday - Friday, covering shifts between 8am to 6pm, varying based on location and registration.

School's Out Day: Hours vary based on program length and registration.

Holiday Break Camp: Hours vary based on program length and registration.
