The Aquatic Invasive Species Inspector role is essential for safeguarding Minnesota's water ecosystems. This position involves inspecting, educating, and informing the public about the dangers posed by invasive aquatic species. Inspectors will undergo comprehensive training in MN DNR protocols and will be empowered to enforce state laws regarding Aquatic Invasive Species (AIS) while conducting meticulous inspections of watercraft at various locations within the Prior Lake Spring Lake Watershed District.
Inspectors will primarily operate at the Upper Prior Lake, Lower Prior Lake, and Spring Lake launch sites, performing inspections at public water access points. Responsibilities include assisting boaters, distributing educational materials, engaging in invasive species removal, and participating in other environmental conservation projects.
Work Schedule: Part-Time positions available from May through September, with shifts mainly on weekends and holidays.
Key Responsibilities:
- Inform the public about the AIS program and current environmental challenges.
- Disseminate educational literature and pamphlets.
- Conduct thorough inspections of watercraft for invasive species.
- Perform verbal surveys to gather data.
- Document inspection activities accurately.
- Stay updated on best practices for watercraft inspections.
Qualifications:
- Strong verbal communication and customer service skills.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently and professionally.
- Willingness to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Availability to work on weekends and holidays.
- Physical capability to lift and stand for extended periods based on traffic patterns.
