Job Summary:
Smith Rowe, LLC is seeking a skilled Laborer - Grading Specialist to join our team. As a Laborer - Grading Specialist, you will be responsible for performing manual labor tasks, such as carrying materials, using hand tools, and assisting crew members in day-to-day physical activities.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform strenuous manual labor tasks, including raking, shoveling, digging, and sewing grass.
- Carry tools and hand-held equipment from one place to another.
- Operate equipment as needed, if trained, including front-end loaders, excavators, backhoes, skid-steers, and other construction equipment.
- Assist crew members with duties as needed.
Requirements:
- Experience with grading is preferred.
- Possession of a valid driver's license is preferred.
- Must have hand-eye coordination.
- Able to read and comprehend instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
- Able to effectively communicate information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and employees.
- Ability to apply common sense understanding in order to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
- Ability to deal with problems/issues involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
- Experienced working around heavy construction equipment.
- Ability to prioritize tasks and manage time effectively.
- Able to multitask simultaneously.
- Able to communicate to crew members in a professional and effective manner.
- Able to provide effective feedback to team members.
- Must have a strong work ethic.
- Team-oriented.
- Safety-oriented.
- Customer-oriented.
- Must be 18 years of age.
- Able to pass pre-employment and random drug screens.
Physical Demands:
- Extensive physical activity performing strenuous daily activities of a primarily productive/technical nature.
- Able to walk on uneven surfaces, including natural ground in varying weather conditions.
- Capable of lifting up to 70 pounds.
- Visual accuracy under varying degrees of light, darkness, and weather conditions in order to provide safe directions for operators of heavy equipment and other employees.
- Able to climb on and off heavy mobile equipment, and in and out of excavations and up to 20 feet in height.
- Able to work overtime and weekends, if necessary.
- Able to travel when required.
- Requires working from heights.
- Coordination between hand, eyes, feet to guide equipment and objects is required.
- Must be able to mount and dismount off of vehicles and equipment.
- Must be able to wear appropriate personal protective equipment.
- Able to push and pull with hands, arms, and feet repetitively.
- Must have good visual and auditory physical capabilities in order to manage sights and sounds in a hazardous construction environment.
- Able to be alert and cognitive of multiple concurrent activities of the construction site, including awareness of other employees, subcontractors, machinery, equipment, and moving traffic when applicable.
Environmental Working Conditions:
- Outdoors exposed to changing weather conditions (i.e., rain, sun, snow, wind, etc.).
- Noise level in the work environment is loud.
- Exposure to dust, grease, gasoline, diesel fuel, concrete, and other environmental factors of a construction job site.
- Work is performed near heavy equipment and moving machinery.
- Exposure to all elements of nature.
- Exposure to all types of terrain.
