Job Title: Grading Laborer

We are seeking a skilled Grading Laborer to join our team at Smith Rowe, LLC. As a Grading Laborer, you will be responsible for performing manual labor tasks, such as carrying materials, using hand tools, and assisting crew members in day-to-day physical activities.

Responsibilities:
  • Performs strenuous manual labor, including raking, shoveling, digging, and seeding grass.
  • Carries tools and hand-held equipment from one place to another.
  • May operate equipment as needed, if trained, including front-end loaders, excavators, backhoes, skid-steers, and other construction equipment.
  • Assists crew members with duties as needed.
Requirements:
  • Experience with grading is preferred.
  • Possession of a valid driver's license is preferred.
  • Must have hand-eye coordination.
  • Able to read and comprehend instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
  • Able to effectively communicate information in one-on-one and small group situations.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding in order to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Ability to deal with problems/issues involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Experienced working around heavy construction equipment.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and manage time effectively.
  • Able to multitask simultaneously.
  • Able to communicate to crew members in a professional and effective manner.
  • Able to provide effective feedback to team members.
  • Must have a strong work ethic.
  • Team-oriented.
  • Safety-oriented.
  • Customer-oriented.
  • Must be 18 years of age.
  • Able to pass pre-employment and random drug screens.
Physical Demands:
  • Extensive physical activity performing strenuous daily activities of a primarily productive/technical nature.
  • Able to walk on uneven surfaces, including natural ground in varying weather conditions.
  • Capable of lifting up to 70 pounds.
  • Visual accuracy under varying degrees of light, darkness, and weather conditions.
  • Able to climb on and off heavy mobile equipment, and in and out of excavations and up to 20 feet in height.
  • Able to work overtime and weekends, if necessary.
  • Able to travel when required.
  • Requires working from heights.
  • Coordination between hand, eyes, feet to guide equipment and objects is required.
  • Must be able to mount and dismount off of vehicles and equipment.
  • Must be able to wear appropriate personal protective equipment.
  • Able to push and pull with hands, arms, and feet repetitively.
  • Must have good visual and auditory physical capabilities in order to manage sights and sounds in a hazardous construction environment.
  • Able to be alert and cognitive of multiple concurrent activities of the construction site.
Environmental Working Conditions:
  • Outdoors exposed to changing weather conditions.
  • Noise level in the work environment is loud.
  • Exposure to dust, grease, gasoline, diesel fuel, concrete, and other environmental factors of a construction job site.
  • Work is performed near heavy equipment and moving machinery.
  • Exposure to all elements of nature.
  • Exposure to all types of terrain.
