The Kitchen Manager oversees all culinary staff and food production processes at Cafe 13. This role encompasses the establishment of food purchasing standards and the implementation of standardized recipes. Additionally, the Kitchen Manager is tasked with upholding the highest standards of food quality and hygiene throughout the establishment. This position is salaried, requiring full-time commitment of up to 50 hours per week, including availability on weekends, evenings, and holidays.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage and supervise all kitchen personnel, including line cooks, prep cooks, and dishwashers.
  • Conduct interviews and hire kitchen staff, including line and prep cooks, bakers, and dishwashers.
  • Oversee, mentor, and discipline kitchen staff; coordinate and schedule work to ensure efficient food preparation within budgeted labor costs.
  • Provide training for all kitchen employees, including line cooks, prep cooks, and dishwashers.
  • Develop weekly kitchen schedules using Homebase, prepared two weeks in advance.
  • Conduct monthly performance reviews with each kitchen employee.

  • Inventory Records
  • Order kitchen ingredients and supplies 2-4 times weekly.
  • Receive deliveries and verify accuracy.
  • Train staff to manage inventory and place orders during days off.
  • Identify opportunities to minimize waste, reduce costs, and enhance operational efficiency.
  • Create innovative menu items and new recipes.
  • Ensure the accuracy and quality of all food served.
  • Deliver exceptional customer service and exemplify the values of Cafe 13 to guests and staff alike.
  • Kitchen Cleanliness and Maintenance:
  • Ensure compliance with hygiene, professionalism, cleanliness, and safety standards as per health regulations; establish a routine cleaning and maintenance schedule for all kitchen areas and equipment.
  • Confirm that all kitchen equipment is functional, scheduling regular maintenance as needed.
  • Submit purchase requests for equipment and supplies exceeding $300 in quantity to the General Manager.
  • Licenses and Technical Skills:
  • Proficient in computer applications such as Homebase, Inventory Systems, Excel, and ordering platforms.
  • Possess excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Maintain a current ServSafe Certification.

Physical Requirements:

  • Regularly required to stand, walk, sit, use hands, reach with arms, and bend.
  • Occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 lbs.
  • Work in a kitchen environment with inherent risks, including slippery surfaces and sharp tools, necessitating adherence to safety protocols.


Job Type: Full-time



Compensation: $55,000 - $70,000 annually
