Job Summary

The Social Service Specialist provides critical support to clients and residents of Star of Hope, helping them navigate challenging life circumstances such as poverty, illness, disability, or other issues. This role involves conducting needs assessments, providing social services assistance, and researching assistance programs to help clients access benefits and resources.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct needs assessments and provide social services assistance to clients and residents of Star of Hope
  • Research and help clients complete paperwork for assistance programs such as Medicaid, Medicare, Social Security, and SNAP benefits
  • Develop relationships with local agencies and organizations to provide services to clients and residents
  • Provide monthly reports on contacts made and services provided
  • Transport clients to appointments as needed
  • Coordinate community resource fairs and other events to support clients and residents
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in social work required
  • Two years' experience in a social service agency
  • Experience working with interns and school/universities
  • Ability to work with individuals experiencing homelessness, substance use, and generational poverty
  • Good reading, writing, time management, and multitasking skills
Work Environment

This role requires frequent visits with clients at program sites, occasional weekend or evening events, and normal business hours. The work schedule may be subject to change to meet the business needs of the mission.

Professional Requirements

A valid state driver's license and vehicle insurance are required. The ability to work respectfully, professionally, and in a Christ-like manner with everyone is essential.
