Job Overview

As a Mechanical Engineer, you will be responsible for overseeing the upkeep and repair of various production and processing machinery to ensure minimal operational interruptions. Your expertise in both electrical and mechanical troubleshooting will be essential in maintaining and optimizing equipment performance. This role also involves the setup and operation of production tools and machinery prior to their approval for use in manufacturing processes.

Key Responsibilities
  • Report any operational issues to the management team promptly.
  • Monitor and manage warranties and service agreements, alerting relevant personnel of upcoming expirations.
  • Support the training and development of on-site mechanical technicians.
  • Conduct monthly inventory checks and verify the stock of maintenance parts and supplies across various facilities.
  • Procure necessary parts and supplies, particularly critical items, to prepare for potential downtime.
  • Establish and maintain a cost-effective preventive maintenance program.
  • Plan and oversee contract work and installations performed by external vendors.
  • Lead machinery installations and provide on-site troubleshooting to mitigate downtime.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, safety protocols, and maintain cleanliness standards.
  • Travel requirements for this position are approximately 50% to 60%.
  • Provide oversight and training for new operators.
  • Conduct tests and trials for new products and resin blends.
  • Assist in the production of new product samples.
  • Troubleshoot equipment issues and assist with new equipment installations.
  • Support maintenance technicians with work orders and spare parts inventory management.
  • Additional responsibilities may be assigned as needed.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED; college education or related technical coursework preferred.
  • Proficient in computer and data entry skills.
  • Demonstrated electrical and mechanical aptitude.
  • Minimum of four years of maintenance experience in a manufacturing environment, particularly in troubleshooting machinery.
  • Experience in the corrugated box industry with a strong focus on electrical systems.
Language Proficiency

Ability to read and interpret safety regulations, operating instructions, and maintenance manuals. Capable of writing routine reports and communicating effectively with groups of employees or clients.

Mathematical Skills

Ability to accurately read measurements and perform calculations involving percentages, volume, and rates. Proficient in applying high school level math concepts.

Reasoning Skills

Ability to apply common sense to follow instructions provided in various formats. Capable of addressing problems involving multiple concrete variables in standardized situations.

Technical Skills
  • Understanding of equipment design and capabilities for efficient operations.
  • Strong electrical and mechanical skills.
Certifications

May be required to hold a current Lift Truck Operator License or other relevant certifications for specific equipment.

Physical Requirements

This position requires regular standing, walking, and communication. Frequent use of hands for handling and reaching is necessary, along with the ability to lift and move up to 50 pounds regularly and up to 100 pounds occasionally. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, and depth perception.

Work Environment

Employees may be exposed to moving mechanical parts, humid conditions, and high noise levels.
