The Safety Coordinator plays a crucial role in supporting the Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) department alongside the Shipyard Project Manager. This position involves executing various administrative and clerical tasks to ensure smooth operations.
Key ResponsibilitiesDaily Operations:
- Conduct routine inspections of the shipyard and vessels engaged in projects.
- Perform atmospheric assessments in tanks and maintain accurate records for compliance and approval processes.
- Engage in daily safety briefings to promote a culture of safety awareness.
Documentation and Reporting:
- Assist in the management and storage of Job Safety Analyses (JSA) and permits for daily shipyard activities.
- Utilize software applications for database management and document processing.
- Identify potential hazards and recommend strategies to minimize risks.
Administrative Support:
- Establish and maintain organized filing systems for both paper and electronic documents.
- Compile information for insurance and permit requests as needed.
- Prepare and distribute various reports and metrics related to HSE activities.
Compliance and Auditing:
- Ensure adherence to organizational safety policies and report any unsafe practices.
- Assist in the preparation of documentation for safety audits and incident tracking.
- Manage document control processes and maintain a tracking registry.
Education and Experience:
A high school diploma with 1-2 years of relevant experience in safety or a related field is required. Familiarity with industry practices and procedures is essential.
Skills and Abilities:
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Detail-oriented with excellent organizational skills.
- Able to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
This role may require prolonged periods of sitting and working on a computer, as well as the ability to lift up to 15 pounds when necessary.
