Job Responsibilities
The Nutritionist Associate is responsible for independently assessing the nutritional eligibility of clients within established program guidelines and prescribing suitable food packages.
This role involves evaluating nutritional status and eligibility for services through comprehensive assessments, including food frequency history, growth patterns, weight patterns, biochemical values, and medical history.
The associate will set dietary objectives based on these assessments and provide personalized counseling tailored to individual nutritional requirements. Referrals for high-risk counseling with a Nutritionist will be made when necessary.This position is funded exclusively by WIC, and its continuation is subject to annual funding reviews. Employment is contingent upon the ongoing availability of grant or non-general funds.
All Health-Care Personnel (HCP) are required to submit documentation of immunizations or proof of immunity for hepatitis B, measles, mumps, rubella, and varicella, along with a one-time Tdap vaccine dose. Seasonal influenza vaccination is also mandatory.
The Virginia Department of Health provides a comprehensive benefits package, including 12 paid holidays, medical, dental, vision, and life insurance, retirement plans, and various leave options.
Minimum Qualifications
- Fundamental knowledge of nutrition and dietary standards
- Proficiency in conducting interviews and gathering information
- Ability to interpret, document, and compile routine data
- Experience in patient education and effective communication
- Strong verbal and written communication skills for interaction with diverse individuals
- Capability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team
- Experience in managing multiple tasks and prioritizing workloads
- Proficient in using computer systems
Additional Considerations
- Relevant training, job experience, or coursework in Nutrition, Dietetics, food services, or related fields is preferred
- Bilingual proficiency in Spanish and English is advantageous
- Experience in obtaining blood samples and measuring heights and weights is a plus
