Position Overview:
We are currently seeking a talented Design Engineer to join our Research & Development team. This role is pivotal in crafting innovative solutions to intricate lighting fixture design challenges. The selected candidate will oversee projects from the initial concept stage through to product launch, ensuring that our designs meet both aesthetic and functional requirements.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Utilize creative thinking and analytical skills to develop unique decorative lighting concepts centered around performance-based technology.
  • Take ownership of project deliverables, including comprehensive design and production documentation.
  • Provide support for product manufacturing through training, work instructions, and the creation of necessary samples.
  • Maintain a customer-focused approach, ensuring that project deadlines are consistently met.
  • Identify risks early in the design process and lead Design for Manufacturing and Assembly (DFMA) reviews.
  • Manage multiple projects simultaneously across various development phases.
  • Engage in both in-person and remote collaboration with project stakeholders, design teams, manufacturing, and marketing.
  • Adhere to established design methodologies and documentation protocols.
  • Collaborate with manufacturing facilities to resolve issues related to parts, assemblies, and documentation errors.
  • Contribute to process improvement initiatives and related research efforts.
  • Conduct tests and collaborate with third-party testing to ensure compliance with CSA/UL standards, maintaining quality control of lighting fixtures.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field from an accredited institution.
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience in design development, preferably within the solid-state lighting sector.
  • Proficient in SolidWorks, with experience in Product Data Management (PDM).
  • Understanding of manufacturing processes related to part design, including injection molding, CNC machining, casting, and sheet metal processing.
  • Strong grasp of engineering fundamentals and the ability to apply Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).
  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written, including the ability to convey ideas through sketches and engineering drawings.
  • Proven track record of achieving cost reduction targets as outlined in project scopes.
  • Basic proficiency with shop tools, CNC machinery, and 3D printing technology.
  • Willingness to travel up to 20% for trade shows, production support, and job site assistance as required.
  • Detail-oriented with strong written and verbal communication skills.
