Position Overview:
We are currently seeking a talented Design Engineer to become a vital part of our Research & Development team. This role is essential in crafting innovative solutions to intricate design challenges associated with lighting fixtures. The selected candidate will guide projects from initial concept through to successful product launch, ensuring that our designs not only meet aesthetic standards but also functional requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
- Utilize creative thinking and analytical skills to develop unique decorative lighting concepts that prioritize performance-based technology.
- Take ownership of comprehensive project deliverables, including design documentation, production specifications, and cost models.
- Provide support for product manufacturing through training, work instructions, and prototype samples.
- Maintain a customer-centric approach to ensure project deadlines are consistently met.
- Identify risks early in the design process and lead Design for Manufacturing and Assembly (DFMA) reviews.
- Manage multiple projects simultaneously across various stages of development.
- Engage in both in-person and remote collaboration with project stakeholders, design teams, manufacturing, and marketing departments.
- Adhere to established design methodologies and documentation standards.
- Collaborate with manufacturing facilities to address part or assembly issues and manage deviation requests.
- Contribute to process improvement initiatives and related research activities.
- Demonstrate strong attention to detail and self-management skills in a fast-paced environment.
- Conduct testing and coordinate with third-party testing for CSA/UL certification, ensuring quality control of lighting fixtures.
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field from an accredited institution.
- A minimum of 3 years of experience in design development, preferably within the solid-state lighting sector.
- Proficient in SolidWorks with experience in Product Data Management (PDM).
- Familiarity with manufacturing processes relevant to part design, including injection molding, CNC machining, casting, and metalworking.
- Understanding of engineering principles and the ability to apply Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, along with the ability to convey ideas through sketches and engineering drawings.
- Proven track record of achieving cost reduction targets as outlined in project scopes.
- Basic proficiency with shop tools, CNC machines, and 3D printing technology.
- Willingness to travel up to 20% for trade shows, production support, and site-related responsibilities.
- Detail-oriented with strong written and verbal communication skills.
