Position Overview

Branch's Civil Division is seeking a reliable and diligent Site Grading Supervisor to become part of our reputable and expanding organization. The Supervisor collaborates with Superintendents and Project Managers to manage grading activities and supervise the grading team on-site. Acting as the key intermediary between laborers and management, the Site Grading Supervisor is responsible for ensuring the successful completion of projects while maintaining a comprehensive understanding of the overall objectives. The Supervisor must be knowledgeable about material costs, permits, and compliance with regulations, as well as prioritizing employee safety.

Key Responsibilities
  • Maintains professional relationships with Owners, Engineers, and team members.
  • Constructs projects according to plans and specifications as directed by management.
  • Develops and implements effective plans in collaboration with the Superintendent prior to initiating work activities, determining necessary methods and means to achieve project objectives.
  • Ensures proper storage of materials and rented equipment, conducting regular inventory checks.
  • Oversees the operation and maintenance of equipment under their jurisdiction, ensuring appropriate applications for each type of machinery.
  • Prepares and schedules daily grading activities as required.
  • Possesses knowledge of inspection and material or equipment requirements.
  • Identifies and promptly reports any requests for additional work.
  • Assists the Superintendent in preparing daily reports, work unit quantity reports, equipment reports, and material receipts.
  • Ensures quality control and compliance with contract specifications for grading activities under their supervision.
Continued Responsibilities
  • Directly responsible for safety and accident prevention for the grading team.
  • Participates in safety meetings and implements effective safety programs, communicating policies effectively.
  • Collaborates with Corporate Safety managers to ensure compliance with safety regulations at job sites.
  • Assists in conducting investigations following incidents.
  • Identifies and recommends team members for potential career advancement opportunities.
  • Responsible for the training and development of team members.
  • Utilizes planning tools to ensure all necessary resources are available for work tasks.
  • Attends end-of-shift meetings, prepared to discuss coordination and operational issues.
  • Regularly conducts effective morning briefings.
  • Participates in weekly team meetings and contributes to the development of weekly work plans.
  • Promotes a work environment that encourages employee morale and mutual respect.
Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent.
  • Working knowledge of relevant standards, specifications, codes, regulations, and laws.
  • 5+ years of experience in highway construction.
  • 3+ years of experience as a Site Grading Supervisor.
  • Proficient in operating various types of heavy equipment for earthwork and site projects.
  • Knowledgeable in dirt work, including excavation, grading, surveying, and final excavation tasks.
  • Familiar with OSHA regulations.
  • Experience with Global Positioning System (GPS) technology.
  • Valid driver's license and compliance with company fleet policy requirements.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment and make effective decisions.
  • Capable of completing tasks with minimal supervision, on time, and within budget.

Travel Requirements

Travel to project sites is infrequent; however, candidates should be willing and able to travel as needed.

Supervisory Duties

This role may involve supervising five or more employees.

Physical Requirements

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to communicate effectively. This role requires frequent standing, walking, twisting, bending, handling objects, reaching outward, and reaching above head and shoulders, climbing, squatting, kneeling, and occasionally lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, moving, or dragging objects weighing up to 50 lbs.

Position Type/Expected Work Hours

This is a full-time position typically requiring 50+ hours per week. Due to the nature of the role, the employee must be available on-call during early or late hours to address delays, adverse weather conditions, and emergencies at the job site.
