POSITION DEFINITION

Under the direct supervision of the Assistant Director of Parks & Recreation or his/her designee, the individual in this role is tasked with monitoring Town parks and recreational facilities while enforcing regulations governing facility usage. Additional duties include maintaining attendance logs, identifying safety risks, collaborating with Town personnel to resolve safety concerns, and collecting fees where applicable for facility usage and programs.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Secures and opens facilities designated for public use. Manages vehicle parking at Parks and Recreation events. Upholds department regulations by verifying residency identification, inspecting permits, and prohibiting the consumption of alcoholic beverages on park premises.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Ability to enforce Parks and Recreation rules and regulations firmly, tactfully, and impartially; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees and the public; ability to anticipate and recognize dangerous and potentially dangerous situations at park facilities; ability to recognize emergencies and to take necessary preventative action.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS AND LICENSING

Acceptable Training and Experiences:

High school diploma

The following physical and mental standards are identified as necessary to perform the essential duties and responsibilities.
  • Mobility: frequent walking around parks and recreational facilities; occasional kneeling, crouching, pushing, and pulling materials and equipment; occasional reaching above and below desk level for objects.
  • Lifting: frequent lifting of papers, files, and material weighing up to 10 pounds; occasional lifting and carrying of equipment and other items up to 25 pounds.
  • Visual Requirements: frequent use of vision sufficient to read files, documents, and computer screens and do close-up work.
  • Hearing/Talking: frequent hearing and talking, in person and on the telephone.
  • Emotional/Psychological Factors: frequent contact with others, including extensive public contact; frequent deadlines and time-limited assignments.
Work Environment:

Work is primarily performed outdoors at Town parks, recreational facilities, and other municipal properties. While performing the duties of the job, the employee may have to work during weather conditions that are outside normal temperatures and conditions.
