Job Summary

Builders FirstSource is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Material Handler I - Yard to join our team. As a Material Handler I - Yard, you will play a critical role in ensuring the efficient flow of materials and products on our premises.

Key Responsibilities
  • Material Handling: Physically handle materials used to construct components and finished products to ensure optimal movement and storage.
  • Equipment Operation: Operate motorized and non-motorized material handling equipment, including forklifts and pallet jacks, to move materials around the yard.
  • Training and Development: Respond to training from supervisors and senior handlers to increase knowledge of work processes and improve skills.
  • Safety and Compliance: Understand and observe all safety procedures and practices to prevent injury to yourself and coworkers, and attend periodic safety meetings as required.
  • Other Duties: Perform other duties as assigned by supervisors.
Requirements
  • Education: High school diploma or General Education Degree (GED).
  • Skills and Abilities: Knowledge of and ability to use motorized and non-motorized material handling equipment, manual dexterity, knowledge of safety procedures, and ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed instructions.

  • Work is performed within a production environment, subject to temperature variations, hazardous chemicals, mechanical parts, increased noise levels, and dust.
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 25 pounds frequently and on occasion up to 80 pounds.
  • May be required to perform specific tasks that involve climbing, lifting, pushing, or kneeling.
