Deputy Director of Emergency Preparedness

The City of New York is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Deputy Director for Emergency Operations to join our team. As a key member of our Office of Asylum Seeker Operations, you will be responsible for managing and coordinating our emergency preparedness and response activities.
Key Responsibilities- Oversee continuity of operations (COOP) and emergency management planning tasks.
- Conduct facility risk assessments for emergency planning activities.
- Coordinate day-to-day emergency operations objectives and outcomes with internal and external stakeholders.
- Collaborate with the Data and Technology Unit to track and respond to incidents.
- Provide expert advice and guidance to senior leadership on emergency operations and other relevant issues.
- Build strong relationships with key stakeholders and stay up-to-date with industry trends and best practices.
- Develop effective communication strategies and maintain open lines of communication with stakeholders.
- A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university and five years of progressively responsible experience in a large governmental agency, business firm, civic or community organization operating in the area of social services.
- Minimum 8 years of experience in program coordination or City operations.
- Knowledge of emergency operations, building code, and/or housing policy.
- Experience in City government or with an organization which engages with City government required.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Demonstrated ability to lead large teams.
- Proven experience managing project work with minimal oversight and ability to self-start on directives.
- Strong analytical, organizational, oral, and written communication skills.
- Ability to communicate effectively with colleagues and partners in a cross-cultural, multi-disciplinary environment.
- Prior experience managing government (any level) programs.
- Spanish language skills.
- Ability to work flexible hours and occasional weekends.
