Job Summary

The Coatings Specialist is responsible for managing the production operations for various areas of the coating department as assigned by management. This includes continually optimizing the processes and materials required for the application of various coatings supplied from the facility. The ideal candidate will develop new coatings and define the required ancillary equipment needed for the processes.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop, review, and audit job safety hazard analysis documentation.
  • Play an integral part in the facility's safety program, responsible for the safety of employees.
  • Monitor the quality of work performed by employees.
  • Responsible for the efficiency of employees.
  • Develop and document coating processes and testing procedures.
  • Develop and evaluate new and current production coatings.
  • Test and adjust chemical levels of electroplating baths.
  • Perform programming required for various coating application equipment.
  • Perform job cost estimating and specify/order departmental consumables.
  • Train local and sister company employees on coating procedures, properties, and application methods.
  • Perform other duties as assigned or requested.

Supervisory Responsibilities
  • Directly supervise employees as required.
  • Schedule the day-to-day operations for the work cells associated with coatings.
  • Verify and balance employee time entry in the business system.
  • Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.
  • Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field from an accredited college or university, with one to two years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
  • Computer skills: ADP (Time and Attendance), GSS (Business systems), Spreadsheet, Word Processing Software, and Coating Equipment Programming.
  • Problem-solving skills: identifies and resolves problems in a timely manner; gathers and analyzes information skillfully; develops alternative solutions; works well in group problem-solving situations; uses reason even when dealing with emotional topics.
  • Customer service skills: manages difficult or emotional customer situations; responds promptly to customer needs; solicits customer feedback to improve service; responds to requests for service and assistance; meets commitments.
  • Business acumen: understands business implications of decisions; displays orientation to profitability; demonstrates knowledge of market and competition; aligns work with strategic goals.
  • Cost consciousness: works within approved budget; develops and implements cost-saving measures; contributes to profits and revenue; conserves organizational resources.
  • Safety and security: observes safety and security procedures; determines appropriate action beyond guidelines; reports potentially unsafe conditions; uses equipment and materials properly.
