Pediatric Intensive Care Unit Registered Nurse

As a vital member of our healthcare team, the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) Registered Nurse is responsible for the comprehensive planning and execution of patient care. Utilizing nursing methodologies, the RN will engage in assessment, implementation, and evaluation processes to ensure optimal outcomes for our young patients.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct thorough patient admission assessments and facilitate the discharge planning process in accordance with established protocols.
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to develop, implement, and document individualized care plans that promote safe and effective treatment.
- Administer nursing care, including IV monitoring, specimen collection, and assistance with medical procedures.
- Follow physician directives, ensuring accurate medication administration while adhering to established safety protocols.
- Engage in daily multidisciplinary rounds, fostering a Family-Centered Care approach.
- Utilize electronic health records to enhance patient care efficiency and respond promptly to patient needs.
- Administer sedation safely and monitor recovery in compliance with institutional policies.
- Perform comprehensive nursing assessments, including vital signs, wound care, and medication administration.
- Document and manage restraint use according to established guidelines.
- Ensure timely and accurate documentation in the electronic health record.
- Communicate critical lab results and collaborate with families regarding care plans.
- Promote a culture of safety by adhering to quality indicators and best practices.
- Facilitate effective handoff communication during shift changes.
- Ensure appropriate use of personal protective equipment (PPE) as per guidelines.
Minimum Qualifications
- Active RN Licensure in the State of Florida or Multi-State Enhanced Nursing License Compact (eNLC).
- Current CPR BLS certification from the American Heart Association.
- PALS certification from the American Heart Association, to be obtained within two years of hire.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) or enrollment in a BSN program.
- Minimum of one year of RN experience in an ICU setting preferred.
- Experience in pediatric critical care is highly desirable.
- Completion of ICU critical care training preferred.
- National certification as a Certified Pediatric Nurse (CPN) or Critical Care Registered Nurse (CCRN) is encouraged within specified timeframes.
- Proficiency in electronic health records and data analysis.
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Ability to work collaboratively and influence positive outcomes.
- Leadership potential for charge nurse responsibilities after one year.
- Understanding of diverse cultural perspectives on health and wellness.
