Job Title: Peer Support Specialist

We are seeking a highly motivated and compassionate Peer Support Specialist to join our team at The Mental Health Association of Oregon. As a Peer Support Specialist, you will play a vital role in providing support and guidance to individuals experiencing mental health and addiction challenges.

Job Summary:

The Peer Support Specialist will work collaboratively with our team to provide peer support services to individuals in Clackamas County. This includes providing support in various locations and environments, including hospitals, courts of law, and community settings. The ideal candidate will have lived experience of mental health challenges and/or co-occurring mental health and addiction recovery, and will possess strong communication and interpersonal skills.

Responsibilities:
  • Provide peer support services to individuals in Clackamas County, including adults, children, and families.
  • Work collaboratively with our team to provide support and guidance to individuals experiencing mental health and addiction challenges.
  • Develop and maintain positive and trusting relationships with individuals being served.
  • Assist individuals in exploring strategies that increase satisfaction with the eight dimensions of wellness.
  • Administer outcome measurement tools with individuals being served and participate in data collection.
  • Document support services in program database in a manner that assures compliance with policies, program procedures, and local, state, and federal regulations.
Requirements:
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Identifies as having lived experience of mental health challenges and/or co-occurring mental health and addiction recovery.
  • Understands the effect of trauma on health, coping, and other aspects of individual needs.
  • Understands the principles of recovery, consumer-involvement, and trauma-informed care.
  • Possesses strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team.
  • Ability to work with people from diverse backgrounds and cultures.
