Supervisory Audiologist Position

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Supervisory Audiologist to lead our Audiology and Speech Pathology Services team. As a key member of our leadership team, you will be responsible for managing administrative and clinical standards of practice within the area of responsibility.
Key Responsibilities- Develops, manages, implements, and ensures compliance with policies and procedures for Audiology and Speech Pathology services.
- Translates management goals and objectives into well-coordinated and controlled service operations.
- Plans and assigns work to be accomplished by subordinates, setting priorities, and preparing schedules for completion of work and appropriate coverage within the service.
- Approves employee leave and overtime requests.
- Gives advice, counsel, or instruction to subordinate personnel on work and administrative matters.
- Evaluates employee performance and makes recommendations for appointments, advancements, or reassignments of subordinates.
- Oversees developmental and training needs of subordinates and provides or makes provision for such development and training.
- Hears and resolves complaints of subordinates.
- Recommends and/or takes disciplinary action where appropriate.
- Interviews and selects candidates for Rehabilitation vacancies.
- Ensures appropriate orientation of new employees in the service.
- Adheres to the pillars, principles, and values of a High Reliability Organization.
- Reviews performance data and customer service/patient satisfaction input to develop or adjust procedures to continually improve processes.
- Provides a wide range of audiology assessments, tests, and interventions.
- Provides education to patients, family members, and significant others.
- Assumes professional responsibility for clinical assessment findings, patient care decisions, and documentation.
- Provides consultation to other professional staff within VHASLC and to community providers, concerning clinical findings and appropriate treatment plans for patients.
- Develops, implements, and documents treatment plans for patients.
- Functions as a member of the VHASLC Medical Staff, with clinical privileges and license to practice independently.
- Provides clinical supervision and instruction for audiology fellows and oversight for speech pathology fellows.
- Completes formal written evaluations in a timely manner as required by the training program.
- Provides A&SP orientation to new service employees as well as medical staff.
- Provides patient and family education.
- Provides periodic educational presentations within areas of expertise.
- Must be a U.S. Citizen.
- Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959.
- Must be proficient in written and spoken English.
- You may be required to serve a probationary period.
- Subject to background/security investigation.
- Selected applicants will be required to complete an online onboarding process.
- Participation in the seasonal influenza vaccination program is a requirement for all Department of Veterans Affairs Health Care Personnel (HCP).
- Participation in the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) vaccination program is a requirement for all Veterans Health Administration Health Care Personnel (HCP).
- United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
- May qualify based on being covered by the Grandfathering Provision as described in the VA Qualification Standard for this occupation (only applicable to current VHA employees who are in this occupation and meet the criteria).
- English Language Proficiency: Audiologist candidates must be proficient in spoken and written English as required by 38 U.S.C. § 7403(f).
- Education: Must have a doctor of audiology (AUD) from an audiology program recognized by the Accreditation Commission for Audiology Education (ACAE) or Council on Academic Accreditation (CAA) of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA).
- Licensure: Individuals must hold a full, current, and unrestricted license to practice audiology at the doctoral level in a United States state, territory, commonwealth, or the District of Columbia.
- GS-14 Experience: Must have at least three years of experience as a professional audiologist, with at least one year comparable to the next lower grade level of GS-13 and must fully meet the KSAs at that level.
- GS-13 Demonstrated Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs): Skill in communicating established performance benchmarks to a service or equivalent organizational department. Skill in implementing continual performance improvement activities to meet performance benchmarks. Ability to perform a full scope of managerial responsibilities. Ability to lead audiologists, speech-language pathologists, and/or other professionals within associated disciplines. Ability to develop contingencies to ensure continual service operations.
- GS-14 Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs): In addition to the experience above, the candidate must demonstrate the following KSAs: Skill in promoting collaboration to accomplish goals. Skill in translating management goals and objectives into efficient service operations. Skill in balancing operational resources to ensure appropriate delivery of service operations. Ability to supervise a diverse staff. Ability to effectively interact and collaborate with local, VISN and/or national leadership. Ability to establish and monitor productivity standards, production and performance priorities to achieve management goals and objectives.
Supervisory audiologists spend 25% or more of their time providing technical and administrative supervision. Supervisory audiologists in this assignment serve as service chiefs. Audiologist service chiefs at this level typically manage programs in Complexity Level 1 (high complexity) facilities.
