Job Title: Special Education Paraeducator

Weber School District is seeking a highly motivated and dedicated Special Education Paraeducator to join our team at Valley View Elementary. As a Paraeducator, you will play a vital role in supporting students with mild to moderate special needs in a dynamic and inclusive learning environment.

Job Summary:

The Special Education Paraeducator will assist assigned teaching personnel in the supervision and instruction of special education students, perform classroom clerical tasks, and assist students with personal care and special health care needs. The ideal candidate will have excellent communication skills, be able to adapt to changing work priorities, and demonstrate a commitment to providing a safe and positive learning environment.

Responsibilities:
  • Communicate with parents to schedule meetings and take messages for special education teachers.
  • Assist in maintaining students' files/records to document activities and provide reliable information.
  • Monitor individual students in classrooms, schools, and community settings to provide a safe and positive learning environment.
  • Perform record-keeping and clerical functions to support teachers and administrators in providing records and materials.
  • Adapt to changing work priorities, display tact and courtesy, meet deadlines and schedules, set priorities, and work with detailed information/data.
  • Support students in various settings, including special education classrooms, general education classrooms, one-on-one, and other settings.
  • Provide accommodations for students, such as reading tests aloud, scribing, and alternate locations for assessments.
  • Support classroom teachers in collecting data and implementing instructional behavioral programs.
  • Assist with daily living skills, such as toileting, changing diapers, feeding, and personal hygiene.
Qualifications:
  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Post-secondary education preferred.
  • ParaPro Praxis (if Title I school).
  • Job-related experience preferred.
Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to assume and maintain various postures (kneeling, squatting, bending, standing, and sitting in student-size chairs) for extended periods.
  • Safely manage physical or verbally aggressive students.
  • Lift occasionally up to 60 lbs. to a height of 36 inches and frequently up to 25 lbs. to a height of 36 inches.
  • Get into and out of full-size 8-passenger vans.
  • Sanitize and clean equipment (work boxes, exercise equipment, walkers, wheelchairs, etc.).
  • Remain calm and follow safety procedures in emergency situations.
  • Walk with students to bus stops in inclement weather and train students to use public transportation.
  • Willing to participate in and utilize MANDT training.
  • May require working with bio-hazards (blood-borne pathogens, human waste, cleaning/disinfecting materials, etc.).
