Job Summary:

As a Charge Nurse at Alameda Health System, you will serve as a lead person for nursing or nursing support personnel, responsible for the operation of an assigned area for each shift. Your primary goal will be to ensure optimal patient care, planning, implementing, and evaluating patient care. You will perform related duties as required.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop, implement, evaluate, and modify an organizational plan for the provision of care for all patients in an assigned area for a given work period.
  • Perform Nurse Leader rounds to all patients in assigned areas to assess nursing care and status of assignment of personnel; make reassignments as necessary and provide assistance, teaching, or guidance as needed.
  • Evaluate the nursing care plan; document or monitor documentation of care given according to mandated criteria and at required intervals.
  • Gather and assess information about patients to meet nursing needs; assist and consult with physicians in the performance of procedures and diagnostic tests; contact physicians and/or other departments to obtain or provide patient information.
  • Monitor implementation of standards set by State and National regulatory and/or accrediting agencies; verify that administrative and personnel procedures are completed accurately; interpret and implement policies, procedures, and regulations.
  • Monitor the regularity of programs providing for infection control, quality assurance, continuity of care, teaching of patients, and coordination of care with other departments.
  • Participate in promoting a healthy, safe, and therapeutic environment for patients and families; set up and control the environment essential for infection control.
  • Promote cordial and productive patterns of communication among staff, patients, and family members; communicate regularly to immediate supervisors any needs, problems, or suggestions.

Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities as well as possession of any required licenses or certifications is qualifying.


Minimum Qualifications:

Education:
Graduate of an accredited Nursing program required; Bachelor's degree in Nursing preferred.

Minimum Experience:
Two years of experience as a Registered Nurse II with AHS or the equivalent of three years full-time professional nursing experience in a large acute facility in the clinical area of application

Preferred Licenses/Certifications:
CCRN - Critical Care Registered Nurse is desirable. (For Intensive Care Unit)

Required Licenses/Certifications:
ACLS - Advanced Cardiac Life Support Certification - issued by AHA - American Heart Association, may be required per facility or unit/department specialty according to patient care policies.

Required Licenses/Certifications:
BLS - Basic Life Support Certification issued by the American Heart Association. Other advanced life support certifications may be required per unit/department specialty according to patient care policies.

Required Licenses/Certifications:
Valid license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of California.
