Job Summary

The SLH Assistant Nurse Manager plays a crucial role in the delivery of high-quality patient care at Alameda Health System's San Leandro Hospital. Reporting to the Nurse Manager, this position is responsible for directing the professional and support nursing personnel on the SLH Med Surg Second Floor.

Key Responsibilities

  • Address and evaluate performance issues, applying corrective action as needed, and assist with annual performance evaluations.
  • Assess and evaluate staff developmental needs, working with the Clinical Nursing Educator to provide programs and classes to meet these needs, and identify employees with growth potential to Nursing Administration.
  • Assist with the budgetary process, making recommendations for personnel, supplies, equipment, remodeling, and contracts.
  • Develop and conduct quality improvement studies and activities.
  • Obtain and incorporate staff suggestions and recommendations, participating in the determination and implementation of patient care and documentation standards, and quality assurance program criteria, and monitor the documentation of their achievement.
  • Perform other duties as required.
  • Responsible for consistent implementation of standards set by State and National regulatory and/or accrediting agencies, monitoring the success and quality of programs providing infection control, quality assurance, continuity of care, patient education, and coordination of care with other departments.
  • Responsible for daily rounding throughout the unit to evaluate the status of patient care operations and environment, staff needs, and patients' perception of care, reporting issues as appropriate.
  • Responsible for effective bed management and patient flow.
  • Sets and manages priorities for patient care and unit operations, making adjustments to staffing as necessary, contributes to the adoption of the master staffing schedule to the unit schedule, maintains approved personnel assignments, time allowance, and payroll and personnel records.

Requirements

  • One year of full-time, continuous experience as a Clinical Nurse III or three years of experience as a Clinical Nurse II with AHS, or four years of full-time, continuous experience in a large facility in the clinical area of application.
  • Graduate of an accredited Nursing Program. Bachelor's degree in Nursing preferred.
  • Current RN license to practice in the State of California.
  • ACLS – Advanced Cardiac Life Support issued by AHA. Other advanced life support certification may be required per unit/department specialty.
  • BLS – Basic Life Support Certification issued by the American Heart Association (AHA).
