Aerodynamics Engineer

SpaceX is a pioneering company that aims to make humanity a multi-planetary species. We are seeking a highly skilled Sr. Aerodynamics Engineer to join our team and contribute to the development of our Starship program.
Job Summary:The Sr. Aerodynamics Engineer will be responsible for predicting the aerodynamics and aerothermal environments of our Starship during all phases of its mission. This includes using engineering models, simulations, and wind-tunnel testing to provide accurate predictions ahead of flight validation. The team works closely with the GNC team to enable safe landing and recovery of both Starship stages.
Responsibilities:- Develop and implement CFD models to predict aerodynamic and aerothermal performance
- Review post-flight data and compare to pre-flight estimates
- Collaborate with engineers to provide inputs to their designs and ensure they have a clear understanding of the physical phenomena
- Write code and scripts in various languages to automate workflow
- Bachelor's degree in an engineering discipline
- 5+ years of experience with aerodynamic and aerothermal analysis
- Master's degree or PhD in aerospace or mechanical engineering
- Experience with Siemens STAR-CCM+ and developing scripts in Java
- Experience with solvers used by NASA for entry vehicles
- Experimental testing experience
- Data processing and analysis in MATLAB or Python
- Must be willing to work extended hours and/or weekends as needed
Pay range: $125,000 - $175,000 per year. Your actual level and base salary will be determined on a case-by-case basis. You may also be eligible for long-term incentives, comprehensive medical coverage, 401(k) retirement plan, and various other benefits.
