Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Aerodynamics Engineer to join our Starship development team at SpaceX. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for predicting the aerodynamics and aerothermal environments of our vehicles during all phases of their missions.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement advanced aerodynamic models and simulations to predict the behavior of our vehicles in various flight regimes.
  • Collaborate with the Guidance, Navigation, and Control (GNC) team to ensure safe landing and recovery of both Starship stages.
  • Work closely with vehicle structures engineers to ensure accurate predictions and designs.
  • Prepare, mesh, run, and post-process Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) models.
  • Review post-flight data and compare to pre-flight estimates.
  • Interface with responsible engineers to provide inputs to their designs and ensure a clear understanding of physical phenomena.
  • Write code and scripts in various languages to automate workflows.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in an engineering discipline.
  • 5+ years of experience with aerodynamic and aerothermal analysis.
Preferred Skills and Experience
  • Master's degree or PhD in aerospace or mechanical engineering.
  • Experience with Siemens STAR-CCM+ and developing scripts in Java.
  • Experience with solvers used by NASA for entry vehicles, e.g. FUN3D, Loci/CHEM, DPLR.
  • Experimental testing experience.
  • Data processing and analysis in MATLAB or Python.
  • Experience with Siemens NX.
  • Experience with thermal protection systems.
  • Strong background in external, compressible fluid dynamics.
Additional Requirements
  • Must be willing to work extended hours and/or weekends as needed.
Compensation and Benefits

Pay range: $125,000 - $175,000 per year. Your actual level and base salary will be determined on a case-by-case basis and may vary based on job-related knowledge and skills, education, and experience.

Base salary is just one part of your total rewards package at SpaceX.
